There’s enough power here to suck up hair, sand and pebbles, although a 30-minute battery life on the standard power setting means you may not be able to get your entire home cleaned in one go. Here, the lack of a soft roller or “Fluffy” head does hinder its performance with larger particles on hard flooring. However, the Dyson V7 models are significantly cheaper, and there is enough suction power to tackle most jobs.

Speaking of which, some of the toughest jobs a vacuum cleaner needs to tackle are sucking up pet or human hair caught within carpet fibers, and let’s just say the V7 is an excellent sucker here. Using it to clean messes like wood or metal shavings could damage it, and it isn't designed to suck up liquids. When vacuuming throughout your home it's not uncommon that your cleaner will suck up something which may lead to the tool, wand or bin inlet becoming blocked. It's okay when handling small household debris on bare surfaces but struggles with heavier material.Its 100 AW suction motor is nowhere near as powerful as newer midrange models, and it has a noticeably harder time lifting away heavier, bulkier debris. The battery indicator lights on either side of the handle begin to flash (denoting the battery needs a top-up) only after the motor has switched off. Suction is fantastic, my cats are shedding fur/cat hair as it’s summer time, used my good old Henry for years through out the house, standing on stairs pipe in one hand hoover in other, being mindful of the cable then unplugging from downstairs as can only hoover a few steps, no more struggling to carry hoover up and down stairs.

In terms of functionality, though, all Dyson V7 models are exactly the same – they share the same motor, battery, power and bin. The Dyson is easier to maintain thanks to its removable brushroll, weighs noticeably less, is easier to maneuver, and does a better job of filtering out allergens thanks to its HEPA filter. Unlike the V6, which had a trapdoor that needed gravity to empty the bin (and thus leaving dust bunnies stuck inside), the V7 employs a hygienic slide mechanism that pushes the debris downward.It incurs minimal recurring costs thanks to its bagless design and washable filters, though its plastic construction feels somewhat fragile.
